A pair of Bornean Orangutans, which are among the closest genetic to humans and highly intelligent, have arrived at Yangon Zoo.
This species is classified as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List due to its high risk of extinction in the wild.
The last time orangutans were exhibited at Yangon Zoo was about 40 years ago, so it is incredibly exciting to welcome this lovely pair—Leo (the male) and Pinky (the female).
Orangutans are native to the islands of Sumatra and Borneo in Southeast Asia. In the wild, these fascinating creatures build nests high up in trees and use their long, powerful arms to swing from branch to branch. Furthermore, they are highly intelligent, capable of solving problems on their own and even using tools.
We warmly invite you to visit the Yangon Zoo to personally observe the behaviors and playful movements of Leo and Pinky.
